Early Foundations: A Family Tradition in Finance
The story of Prestige Private Wealth begins with Gilbert Cloutier, who entered the financial services profession in 1991. Gilbert brought with him extensive experience from his earlier career in the financial sector, including work as a Chief Financial Officer, Auditor, and in retail banking. Over the course of nearly three decades, he built a successful advisory practice and became known for his professionalism, dedication, a commitment to client service, and a focus of doing what’s right for the client.

A Second Generation Joins the Practice
In December 2004, Gilbert’s son Martin Cloutier joined him, marking the start of a second generation in the business. Having grown up around financial planning discussions, Martin developed an early appreciation for the importance of client relationships and sound financial advice.
Martin began his career licensed in insurance and mutual funds, before earning the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, as well as the Registered Retirement Consultant (RRC). This ongoing professional development reflected Martin’s belief that clients are best served by comprehensive, well-rounded advice that considers all aspects of their financial lives.
Expanding the Vision
As his career progressed, Martin pursued opportunities to broaden the tools available to his clients. To that end, he obtained additional credentials including the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Conduct & Practices Handbook (CPH), and Wealth Management Essentials (WME) so that in addition to mutual funds, he could offer ETFs, equities, and fixed income securities into tailored investment strategies. This expansion allowed for a more flexible, diversified approach to wealth management.
A New Chapter: Joining Harbourfront Wealth Management
In 2018, Martin joined Harbourfront Wealth Management as both an advisor and equity partner. As one of the earlier teams to join the firm, he helped establish what has since become a rapidly growing national wealth management platform. The move provided Martin with the ability to deliver a more open, independent approach to investment and financial planning for his clients. He also obtained his CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) designation while at Harbourfront.
The Creation of Prestige Private Wealth
In 2020, Martin launched Prestige Private Wealth as the distinct identity of his practice within Harbourfront. The brand was designed to reflect a top-tier standard of service, with a focus on exclusivity and excellence. The name Prestige underscores the commitment to quality, while Private Wealth highlights the personalized, client-focused nature of the practice.
Over time, Prestige Private Wealth developed a strong specialization in working with physicians, pre-retirees, and retirees. Much like a medical specialist develops expertise in a focused area, the practice offers deep insight and tailored strategies for the unique financial needs of these client groups.
